Street Sweeper Social Club

By Blake Gillespie » >It's not Rage, nor is it the Coup. It's grunge hop for angsty teenagers trying to get up in the club

Boots Riley is from Oakland, CA, a city at war. Since the violent shooting of a young black man, Oscar Grant III, on New Years, the city has begun shooting back, leaving four officers dead in one shootout. It's the kind of shock turmoil that takes focus off a suffering Oakland education system budgeting a $26 million deficit and 250 employee layoffs.

Street Sweeper Social Club

So what does Boots Riley have to say about all this injustice?
What is Tom Morello feeling about the world today?
What if these two revolutionaries got together to get us fed up with the system again?

Street Sweeper Social Club is Tom Morello and Boots Riley making music for Warner Bros. Naturally, its watered down as fuck.

Says Morello:

It’s revolutionary party jams. It’s got huge steamroller riffs combined with depth, charge, funk, while Boots unloads clip after clip of incendiary rhymes rich with satire and venom.

Says Riley:

This is a time when the working class is being fleeced left and right. More families will be homeless and more people will be jobless. They’ll need something to listen to on their ipods while storming Wall Street.

Why the fuck is the working class trying to party? I actually saw a homeless man with an iPod so I won't pretend like Boots' statement isn't the most ridiculous idea since the Snuggie.

I have yet to hear all of these "revolutionary party jams," but if "Fight! Smash! Win!" is any indication, I'd rather not line-up outside club Mutinous with a fake I.D. toting militia. Judging from the track listing, its not getting any better.

Gotta disagree - saw them the other night opening for NIN and damn, it was some weak fucking sauce. Just seemed like another project for Morello to wank off on the guitar. Don't get me wrong, he's an incredible player, but every non-Rage project he puts his hands on sucks. Hard.

Terrific band!!!!. Opened for NIN and Janes Addiction last night in Detroit. I thoroughly enjoyed them, bought their tee-shirt and am awating their debut album in a couple weeks. Great mix of hip hop and metal. Tight playing as well. Great job guys...keep it up!!!

Street Sweeper Social Club played at the NIN concert on May 15th in Phoenix. They were freaking awesome. They had that rage against the machine sound but still maintaining their own identity. Good job boys!
