The Official Of Montreal Album/Song Title Generator

By Ari Spool » Choose-your-own thesaurus.

Of Montreal Album Art

The album art is appropriately complicated.

Of Montreal recently sent us notice of the release of their new record, Paralytic Stalks, and it really got us thinking about our vocabulary. Lots of Of Montreal song titles and album titles seem to be of the verbose variety, either with a vaguely medical or horticultural flavor, like the aforementioned upcoming album, reminiscent of a time when people labeled apothecary bottles with obscure names of tinctures or salves. When not referencing the fun in the pharmacy, they oftentimes bring to mind the bombastic cult leaders of yore, spittle coming out of their mouths as they shout about the better things to come in the search for spiritual renewal. Just look at a selection from the upcoming record to see the patterns:

Gelid Ascent
Spiteful Intervention
Dour Percentage
Malefic Dowery
Ye, Renew The Plaintiff
Wintered Debts
Exorcismic Breeding Knife
Authentic Pyrrhic Remission

That is all of the tracks, minus one that is more of a clause and doesn't have any six-dollar words ("We Will Commit Wolf Murder"). As you can see, the point is easily proven.

We here at Impose have decided to take the next step, to help Kevin Barnes & Co on their creative path. We have created lists of appropriate words for future song and album titles, in an easy mix and match format. If you have more, leave them below.
