Amid the media mills of irrelevant political polemics, we turn toward our beloved tabloids to seek out any golden calves of interest. We heard the rumors about Lil Wayne talking retirement with delays of the Dedication 4 mixtape, then Bobby Brown voluntarily checked himself into rehab, ICP anounced yet another one for the ages or at least their juggalo homies with The Mighty Death Pop, and Animal Collective will drop a premiere of their forthcoming album Centipede Hz LIVE on Animal Collective Radio this Sunday August 19 at 9PM EST. But most importantly: FREE PUSSY RIOT. In the meantime, get in on our round up of what we liked from this week in pop-in no particular order.

Rangda, the semi-holy trinity of Sir Richard Bishop, Ben Chasney, and Chris Corsano, are preparing their new album Formerly Extinct coming out September 18 from Drag City. The 3 adventurers of sound take on a Spanish rendition of the 3 amigos travelling east, encountering and entertaining the nomad tribes on the way to a musical enlightenment that begins now.

LA's He's My Brother She's My Sister gave us a listen to their new single “Electric Love” and have an upcoming show Saturday, September 22 at Golden Gate Park at noon, as well as an upcoming performance at Austin City Limits. Their forthcoming debut Nobody Dances in this Town is coming soon from Park the Van Records with a national tour in the works coming to a town near you.
