Effi Briest recently released their debut LP Rhizomes on Sacred Bones records. Three members of the six-piece offer up some Selections.
First up:

Jack Goldstein
Jack Goldstein is a favorite of mine. Lately I've been thinking about his records, especially the set of nine different sound effects. The austere packaging succinctly describes the sound in plain English with titles like "A Dying Wind". The record object references the action of the sound with symbolically colored vinyl, like clear vinyl in the case of "The Dying Wind". Listening to the sound of a dying wind completes a picture in the mind's eye. The result is a little associative film of your own design sparked by Goldstein's soundtrack, which is a perfect gift from a filmmaker such as himself. I really like his music "Planets, A Suite of Six 10" Records (Music)" too. -Corinne Jones
Bhagavan Das, The Howler at Dawn
Synths create an electric mist around the meditative chimes. Bhagavan Das, calls into the void where truth and abundance are birthed. The abundance, joy, and prosperity that is available to us all, at each moment... reminding us to embrace our intuitive knowing of grace.
Pandit Pran Nath, Ragas of the Morning and Night
My reverence and love for vocal raga and Indian/Eastern vocal tradition has increased through time. Exploring the voice and mystical sounds through lessons with La Monte Young and Marian Zazeela as well as Deepak Kumar have given me more insight to these traditions and techniques. I now spend more time discovering noise from high in the nasal cavity and deep in the throat. As a practical application, I use vocal warm-ups gleaned from these teachers. I am blessed to explore these traditions more in depth at Ananda Ashram. -Kelsey Barrett
(Elizabeth Hart closes it out:)
