LAPP – ‘Sunny’
London-based singer-songwriter LAPP has been stunning listeners since his debut single, ‘Tennessee’, came out towards the end of last year. Labelled by Tom Robinson of BBC 6 Music as ‘a great f*cking artist’, LAPP continues to develop his version of alt-R&B that perfectly frames his emotionally charged vocal and tales of the human condition.
New single ‘Sunny’ “is about a man who wants to save a lady in the night from the men and the world that she lives in, all of which he believes are bringing her down. The instrumental is a cycle, revolving around consistent musical ideas. As the music follows a repeating progression, the man is constantly re-evaluating the world around him.”
LAPP uses live instrumentation to great effect in contrasting some of the electronic elements that flavour the production. This combination grants the track a rich and organic atmosphere, without ever compromising its originality and modernity. A relaxed groove stays constant throughout, leaving plenty of space for his gritty vocals to soulfully meander as he cries out questions of life and love.
