Featured off a forthcoming compilation titled Welcome to Mississippi, America; Dream Cult have been building a cult of personality that has been receiving notice & acclaim from the surrounding world at large as the quintet strives to continuously top their styles & presentation with grander & glorious developments on some slick & sonic breakthroughs.
Striking chords conotate the opening ceremony that paves the way for “Vacation” to materialize in all of it’s serenity & solid production values. Give us the report from Jackson, Mississippi; what’s good right now?
Jackson is doing great right now, there are tons of great bands in town and coming through. Our band as well as a few other locals just opened up a venue in town called Spacecamp.
Local artists we should know about that you all want to give a shout out to?
Our friends in Fides from Jackson just dropped a killer record, Swear Tapes and And the Echo from Oxford are doing great. El Obo, Bob Chiz, Dumspell, Bad Magic and May Queen are some of our personal favorites.
Alright, so tell us about life post Weekend, to the making of this amazing free-spirited “Vacation” for the Welcome to Mississippi, America compilation.
We had a great response from Weekend. Three of the songs were used on MTV’s “Real World: Bad Blood”, and a few retail stores have handpicked some songs for their playlist. We’ve never stopped writing songs since Weekend came out. I feel like by time the album was released we had been finished with the songs for a while so naturally we continued to write. We’re sitting on a few new songs now and we’re all really excited about them.
What vacays & holidays informed “Vacation”?
The song itself is about taking a vacation from a routine lifestyle. When you’re born, you have unspoken expectations such as go to school, get a job, go into debt, etc…and this song is about taking a vacation from the normal routine and doing what makes you genuinely happy.
What can you all tell us about what else you’ve been recording, with perhaps some insinuations on the follow-up to Weekend?
We have 3 songs aside from Vacation that are completely finished and recorded. We plan to release them as soon as possible.
Important activism that you feel the world should get involved in right now?
The compilation itself is for a great cause. The profits made are going to ACLU and Planned Parenthood. I think the most important thing for the world to focus on right now is equality and overall freedom.
Spring & summer vacation wishes?
Beach trip and tour. And possibly a beach trip on tour.
