Jason Maek & Zaena are back with a debut listen to their new single “This is Not America” that breaks down the empirical conceits that politely encourages our country & world to do better than our current state of things. The shit-stem of unsettling instability is exhibited through tense synths that rise up high like digital draconian towers as the Chicago duo demands the due process of civic accountability & equal justice for all peoples.
“This is Not America” is like something out of a modern day Franz Kafka novel of awakening in an increasingly hostile, strange, foreign, formerly familiar world. Maek & Zaena break the spells of discrimination, POC mass incarceration, misogyny & all real present dangers & threats propagated by the current struggle in the face of regressive, fascist policies. The duo harmonize the title over a solemn yet expansive production that stands tall in the face of adversity by demanding that our leaders do better. The anecdote to these oppressive operations can be heard in the commitment to conscious call-outs that exhibits a genuine expression of patriotism that demands truths & rights for all human kind beyond the contrivances of borders, blockades & impotent embargoes. Jason Maek & Zaena introduced their new single with the following reflections:

“This is Not America” is a politically charged track that reflects the frustrations of many Americans today. The heartfelt lyrics, reflecting the current political climate in America, is complimented by an ambient electronic arrangement to create a track that will make you dance, while also getting it’s important message across to the listener.
