Digable Planets and Camp Lo at BRIC Celebrate Brooklyn! Festival

In April, we were excited to learn that Digable Planets were reuniting and touring. After that initial announcement, we discovered why there was no NYC date included in their itinerary: because they were performing a free show in Prospect Park as a part of BRIC Celebrate Brooklyn! Festival. On Saturday, July 30, Doodlebug (née Craig Irving), Ladybug Mecca (Mary Ann Viera), and Butterfly (Ishmael Butler) returned to Brooklyn to perform in the rain, taking the stage to Peaches & Herb’s “Reunited,” and backed by a live band (which featured Tendai Maraire of Butterfly’s other group, Shabazz Palaces). Their tourmates, the Bronx hip hop duo known as Camp Lo (Geechi Suede and Sonny Cheeba) performed an incredible opening set. Photographer Edwina Hay braved the rainy weather to capture their performances for this gallery and also took a portrait of our pal, comedian Eric Andre who also attended the concert.

The rain couldn’t deter us from seeing Digable Planets perform in Brooklyn.
