On the road with Future Islands

Photos by Joe Perez » We took the 10pm Chinatown bus to NC for $30 on Thursday 7/15.  The way it works is you first have to fight your way into the office to claim your ticket (just try to squeeze through and shake your confirmation paper in the air and maybe yell a lot) and then try to figure out where to stand for your bus because there are a few that stop at various spots around the block, which is crowded with hundreds of people.

Nobody really knows whats going on until your bus actually shows up.  At that point it seems like the apocalypse is on its way, and everyone is trying to cram onto the shitty little bus in an effort to not get left behind due to the overselling of tickets.  Once you're on, its 12 hours of not being able to sleep and neck cramps, for $30 it's worth it I guess.

Anyway, we stayed with Phillip Shive who books The Milestone in Charlotte.  His band Fat Camp was playing two shows with Future Islands and Ear Pwr.  The first, July 16, was sold out at The Local 506 in Chapel Hill with Fat Camp, Nuclear Power Pants, Ear Pwr and Future Islands.

Next was the following day with Altered States, Lord Scrummage, Human Pipi Armstrong, Fat Camp, Ear Pwr and Future Islands at The Milestone in Charlotte.
