Soft Lions Stun in New Portraits

Post Author: Meredith Schneider

On a quick trip to the west coast, I got to meet with a couple of really amazing bands. One such band – Soft Lions – met with me on a Wednesday night at a gallery in downtown San Diego. I was already familiar with their work, and had reached out to take a few band portraits for them. The band – a moody, psychedelic three piece comprised of Megan Liscomb, Ana Ramundo, and Jon Bonser – was casually hanging out, in their element.

Little did I know that a few portraits would turn into over an hour of fun, playing around the gallery – Helmuth Projects, which belongs to Liscomb’s boyfriend – that just so happened to be housing a massive art exhibit by Jefferson Eisenberg. Giant, speaker-looking boxes stood tall in the room, housing large amounts of aluminum foil and other trinkets. When I glanced around, my first thought was “otherworldly Native American vibes,” and when I voiced that opinion, Liscomb agreed.

We bonded over SoCal memories and cats as the sun set on that gorgeous Wednesday evening, which further solidified my belief that they are some of the most humble and talented humans that the west coast has to offer. Check out the photos, and get out to a show!

Getting artsy.
