James Brown, Regrooved

James Brown , Regrooved [Goodgroove Records]

By Bryan Covet » Goodgroove Records have gained worldwide recognition for their floor-filling funk and soul regrooves. Featurecast and Slynk were DJs at a monthly club night in southwest England with regrooves that became increasingly sought after in the DJ community.

So, it was a natural progression for them to open a record label and officially release and sell their tracks. Their first release as an official label, Regrooved Series 1, was a collection of all the original tracks from their club night, and it turned out to be an overwhelming success. It's with a serious track record of over twenty-five releases that GGR presents their latest, James Brown Regrooved. Luckily, this time you don't have to wait a few weeks for your vinyl copies to come in the mail. (See link below.)

The free download release consists of nine James Brown classics regrooved by nine different artists on the Goodgroove label. The majority of the tracks are juiced up versions of the originals that rearrange the instrumentation and amp up the dynamics, like the incredible reworking of “Mind Power” by the Basement Freaks and the tremendous rolling drum n’ bass reworking of the sultry “Sunny”, a song originally penned by Bobby Hebb. These tracks tend to resemble the retouching that occurred throughout the Motown Remixed album series from a few years back that featured legends like Z-Trip and DJ Spinna.

With a wide international following and an increasing depth and diversity to their releases, Goodgrove are still at the height of their powers. Their healthy list of up and coming releases includes a Michael Jackson regroove album. Look out for it!

Great review Bryan, just one minor correction: The Goodgroove label was started by Slim Goodgroove (aka Slim or Mr. Goodgroove) of The Sly Players, not Slynk & Featurecast.
