Sweet southern soul from Ralph "Soul" Jackson -- two great tracks, back to back! "Set Me Free" has a soaring sort of hook that almost reminds us of Philly soul from a decade before -- with great vocals that break slightly with a bit of rasp, amidst warmer backing vocals, and instrumentation that has a proud, upbeat sort of groove, but also a few down-home touches too. "Take Me Back" is slightly slower -- a nice midtempo bubbler -- and Ralph's vocals are even better on this number, with a quality that matches that of Sam Dees, Jimmy Lewis, or other southern indie greats of the 70s! --Dusty Groove
