Impose and Viva Radio present The New Front Ear,
a digital compilation featuring exclusive live recordings of more than
25 bands redefining today's (and yesterday's) underground music
frontier. For six weeks in 2008, Impose & Viva tracked around the
country hiding out at basement shows, crashing on couches and floors,
tangling with local law enforcement, and getting to know all of the
bands that would become The New Front Ear.
Among the artists included on the compilation are Baltimore human beat machine Dan Deacon, garage rock torch bearers The Black Lips, Brooklyn ghost punks These Are Powers, and Los Angeles sonic stranglers and manglers Mika Miko and HEALTH,
and many other prominent artists. The New Front Ear captures an
essential energy from each of these bands, that's as much about the
environment of the recording as the song. You can feel the sweat in the
Market Hotel air, smell the beer-soaked floors of The Earl, and see the art & craft visages of the Floristree walls.
All proceeds of the T-shirt and compilation sales benefit Make the Road NY,
a New York City-based non-profit focused on empowering the low-income
and immigrant majority. All bands graciously donated their songs in
lieu of compensation, a gift that lends itself to the community-focused
core of this project.
