Brother Ali, "Writer's Block" Video by Dave Wilson

Donny Hathaway's suicide was believed to be spurred by an overwhelming battle with paranoia. He was convinced that white people were stealing his music through a machine connected to his brain and intended to kill him. It was a tragic ending to career on the verge of a renewal. Brother Ali has Hathaway on his mind as he peaks his head out of his apartment window, while considering the stresses of the writing process. Ali's last record was Us  in '09. "Writer's Block" is vintage Ali. He keeps the weight of his world squarely on his shoulders. The song finds a subtle narrative and engages the perplexities of a creative outlet with a respect to the craft and humble criticism.

Brother Ali's Mourning In America and Dreaming In Color is out soon on Rhymesayers.
