Das Racist, "Brand New Dance" Video by Joseph Zentil
The guitar work by Charlift's Patrick Wimberly on "Brand New Dance" is so infectiously poppy it triggered Das Racist's infatuation with contempt and mockery. It is the trio's speciality; determine what the song sounds like to the average listener and then write a song that deconstructs the inherent tropes. Thus we get "Brand New Dance," which lifts the veil on the function of pop music. It only gets funnier when it's revealed that the men behind the curtain of America's treasured pop music are three brown rappers.
We are already not looking forward to the possible coinage of "slacker-rock-rap" by Heems. Any journo caught using this term sans irony is an imbecile - cut and dry.
