Flatbush Zombies, “This Is It”

Flatbush Zombies

After years of building their name in the Brooklyn underground scene, Flatbush Zombies have officially released their debut album today, the hilariously titled 3001: A Laced Odyssey.

The group recently dropped the music video for “This Is It”, the second single from the Electric KoolAde Records-released album. Over precision-laced 808s, the trio does what they do best: interspersing vivid proclamations with lines of unabashed debauchery.

As Zombie Juice notes on the track, “the money’s getting bigger” for the group, but the Phillip T. Annand (of TMC)-directed visual is beautifully minimalist.

Whereas many videos with white backgrounds are pristine affairs, Annand and his TMC cohort Vinny Picone’s brilliantly created a smoky, dissonant abyss. It couldn’t have been a darker affair shot in a backwoods cabin at 1AM. Perhaps the moody, yellow keys of the Erick the Architect-produced trap banger had something to do with that as well.

3001: A Laced Odyssey is out now on Glorious Dead Recordings.
