Lady Lazarus, "What It's Like" Video by Matthew Naquin
Lady Lazarus's "What It's Like" is a sparse and patient piano song. Consider it a soothing and nurturing alter ego or her friendly ghost persona, presiding opposite her role as a eerie-rockist in The Marshmallow Ghosts. The video creates the effect of walking a country road through a slideshow of Polaroids, which is in step with her hand at alto-keys. She sings of longing, of leaves falling in Brooklyn and a boy whose dreams are stifled by his mother's calls. Lady Lazarus recently transplanted in Oakland, which adds a 3,500 miles of disconnection to her song's setting, but with FMLY fest Oakland edition in two months, hopefully she'll be a little less lonely in the Bay.
