Mat Shoare, “I Want Love”

Post Author: Meredith Schneider

Kansas City, Missouri’s indie singer/songwriter Mat Shoare hits all of the hot buttons in his song “I Want Love”, which happens to encapsulate a notion that everyone has. A desire to be loved and admired translates across cultures and species, giving us all one point to focus on. While Mat prepares for the release of his LP Waking Up is Hard To Do (and we concur), we’ve got the exclusive video premiere for that track right now.

The video gives us an inside look at studio life with Mat, as he performs the song on a beautiful piano. A bit more dramatic than we imagine real life to be, there are shots of him looking off into the distance, leaning against walls, deep in thought. We imagine this is the type of passion he brings to his live performance, and we’re big fans.

Mat himself had quite a bit to say about the video and its musical counterpart.

“I Want Love” was written after I was done recording almost all of the other tracks for the album. Since I was already so far into the album conceptually this song has that advantage and takes multiple concepts from other songs and brings them all together. Also, because it was the last song recorded for the album and the plan was to get it down live, all in one take, I thought it would be cool to shoot that recording session. So that is what you have here with the video. The video is me recording the actual take that ended up on the album. I thought it was a cool chance for people to see behind the scenes of the album a little bit. That room in my house is where most of the album was recording just like that.
