Naughty Professor ft. Cole DeGenova, "Mirrors"

It’s that gem that’s the bedrock of “Mirrors,” the gorgeous new tune from New Orleans-based future funk collective Naughty Professor. The track is from their acclaimed new album Identity, which also features their popular “Stray” song, featuring the Revivalists’ David Shaw. Shaw is also on “Mirrors,” which has been treated to a live performance video from The Music Shed in New Orleans.
Stray may be the operative word for their creative process specifically on Identity, where the band collaborated with over a dozen other talented musicians such as Shaw, Chali 2na, Ivan Neville and more. The group has crafted a groovy jazz/hip-hop/funk fusing soundscape on display with “Mirrors” which is augmented with incisive songwriting that relies on guest singer Cole DeGenova’s inverse observations to offer poignant commentary on ego such as “having all the answers, forgettin’ all the questions.” If the question was, ‘can you play me a great modern funk-jazz fusion record?’, “Mirrors” would be a strong answer.
