Premiere: Manors, “But You Know That”

With just the fingers and throat of Impose’s own editor Dayna Evans, plus a bit of help from bassist Cat Park, Philadelphia-area Manors have produced a ponderous pop nugget with a new video, “But You Know That.” As Evans stands almost still on a fancy porch that calls to mind the swinging hoop skirts of Southern Belles, caught in a lazy afternoon haze, her soft-spoken mumblings echo with an unexpected feeling, breaking into a high-pitched plea: “Please don’t hate me.” Tender and tepid at once, the song’s circular lyrics, spinning in slow motion just like the video, dawdle between goodbyes and regret, all whipped-cream romance and honeyed self-doubt.

“But You Know That” comes from Manors' first full-length album, Fit In, due May 14 via Bandcamp and on tape in the summer via Eat A Book.
