Raleigh Moncrief, "Lament For Morning" Video by

Raleigh Moncrief is having a bitchin' ass 2011 as a producer of Ganglians, Cuckoo Chaos and a slew of other "next favorite" indie bands that have rolled through his Sacramento studio. The buzz has still yet to reach "Marnie Stern band mate" status or "Bitte Orca co-producer" status from years past, but signing to Anticon might give him that push to topple his prior accolades. Last night I saw him eating an $8 gyro, so he's doing swell financially - maybe burning that advance.

"Lament For Morning" sounds as though Moncrief chopped tiny samples of artists he's recorded for the past three years to an untraceable blip. The vocal bop is a medley of voices warming up, stretching nearly through a disjointed octave, while the remainder of the song is filled out with the sonic toys Moncrief has been fiddling with since the days he'd rather not discuss.

Moncrief's Watered Lawn is out October 25 on Anticon.
