Wooden Shjips, "Black Smoke Rising" Video by Miko Revereza
Wooden Shjips' transcendental drone-rock has always felt synonymous with the psychedelic experience that goes nowhere but to the carpet, but director Miko Revereza is making a strong case for the band to function as walking-music, perhaps even having exercise qualities, if you consider kicking up dust to be calisthenics for toning your glutes.
The gritty video is just another do-nothing day for the fence-walking youth, who love a good trip to the power lines on a sunny day, brought to you by Coca-Cola - "open happiness" to wash down the mushroom caps.
Wooden Shjips' West is out September 13 on Thrill Jockey.
