YELLE, “Ici & Maintenant” (Here & Now)

A weird French guy dances (flails his arms) and ties his shoes with spaghetti noodles…

Background

French dance-pop group Yelle has been around for more than a decade. In what must have felt meant-to-be, it was lifelong friends Julie Budet and Jean-François Perrier who decided it was time to start a band.

Taking aim at virality back in 2005 when MySpace was cool, their first single became a minor sensation and eventually landed as a top 5 hit in France, and international indie standout. Releasing albums in 2007, 2011, and 2014, Yelle is a globally recognized artist, who even on tour, still sings in her native French.

“Ici & Maintenant” (Here & Now) is a representation of Yelle in a series of reflections on her urge to be fully connected to the present moment.

Thoughts

Yelle’s new single is a poignant exploration of the countless paths global society pulls us toward. Still niched as a sound fit for any dancing need, “Ici & Maintenant” is a foot-tapping, rhythmically pleasing, 3 and 1/2 minute ride.

Support

Yelle is as well spread out internationally as they are online, being found on Snapchat (@yellesnap), Twitter, Facebook, and their own site.
