This upcoming Cinco De Mayo weekend, Mexican singer and actress Astrid Hadad is descending upon New Jersey’s Montclair State University to put on for her home country. Despite the idiotic rhetoric being spewed by bigots—including the current leader of the free world—Mexico has a rich history, and Hadad will delve into what she described as “the things they didn’t tell us in school” during the US premiere of her colorful Tierra Misteriora stage work.

Tierra Misteriora is a critically acclaimed show that utilizes original music as well as recitations of Mexican classics such as “La Bamba” and “La Cucaracha.” The music, which spans a range of genres, will be interspliced with Hadad’s commentary that chronicles Mexico’s timeline from ancient Tenochtitlan to modern day heroines such as Hadad. Her insights run the gamut of emotion, from biting wit to more poignant assessments. Throughout the show, Hadad wears ornate adornments which reference Mexican history.
The show is a part of Montclair State’s Peak Performances series, and will be performed at the Alexander Kasser theater. You can purchase tickets here.
