What to read (right now) XX: L.A. Noire

Post Author:
LA Noire the book

The game is out and it's pretty good (I guess). But what's also out as of June 6 is a nifty ebook of crime noir stories to accompany the video game. Genius. What author wouldn't come up with something for one of the most anticipated video game titles this year? It's not like the kids are reading their books, so maybe this will at least show them the possibility of other mind stimulation.

These aren't repurposed Raymond Chandler stories either, the authors like Joe Lansdale and Joyce Carol Oates all came up with their own (way to go game developers, taking the genre limitations but adding some new blood to it). And no, I've never read a Joyce Carol Oates novel, but this re-imagining of the Black Dahlia murder with Marilyn Monroe in it seems post-mod to me in a good way.

A whole list of the stories are here and can be read online or in the e-book.

Let's hope this works so authors can get some other collaborations going on.
