LA’s Mothlight brought some psychedelic shine & glow with “Monarch” featuring Shannon Inouye that rises like the southern California sun emerging through the blankets of smog & coastal fog in the blinking awakening intimations of morning. Matt Billings’ solo bedroom project expanded to include keyboard wiz Grant Stevens & percussionist Andrew Smith where along with Shannon the crew creates harmonies & breathy arrangements that are executed like billowing clouds of sound that are heard like something between the elements of vapor & light. Mothlight’s Grant Stevens shared the following exclusive insights on the inspirations that informed “Monarch”:

We try to collaborate with another artist at least once with every release. It keeps the creative process fresh. Though we’ve all been friends with Shannon (who is featured on Monarch) for over a decade, we never seriously collaborated until now. Matt and I sort of hit a wall with what became the chorus of Monarch, so we handed it over. Shannon came back to us with this beautiful, full vocal part that brought everything together. The main theme of Monarch is biting the hand that feeds, particularly in regards to artistic pursuits. That theme, that message is amplified through the spirit of collaboration.
