Up next from our favorite new label Anxiety Pop, we would like to introduce you to Boston’s own Horse Girl who are readying their upcoming cassette Been Better for release July 14 & we have the honor, pleasure & privilege to present the following world premiere for “Alright”. The trio of Ellis Hobby, Liz Sclafani & Sam Mackenzie present their triumphant DIY power pop that was recorded & mixed at Room 322 by Matt Mara & mastered by John Hoffman that shines with an infectious testament to the power of scrappy, sincere & truly inspired (not to mention driven) arts of the audio variety. From the town that brought you the art school anarchists Guerilla Toss; the independent underground sectors of the ancient colonial city prove once again that they are alive & well & worthy of the entire world’s immediate attention.
Horse Girl’s “Alright” is a song that is part of the tried, tested & true tradition of songs named with the contraction that bridges the two points that close the gulf between all & right neatly together in a linguistic harmony. Consider the extensive meanings that icons such as Lou Reed have discovered with said expression where the delights of a decadent eve to the indulgences that occur within the spaces of the margins can be equally expressed in one cool illustration of keen confidence with a simple utterance of alright. “Alright” is the song that perhaps you have been waiting for. Horse Girl hems a song ripped from the memory banks of cherished nostalgia with healthy doses of hedonism to boot that spins everything from the sacred & casual together in one carousel of wavy chords.

Ellis from Horse Girl penned the following exclusive & reflective introduction to their upcoming Been Better tape from Anxiety Pop:

In a nutshell the recording of Been Better was a super fun experience. We were able to work with our good friend, Matt Mara, who took on the role of laying down the trax. He helped make the whole process really laid back and stress free, while still helping us craft a record we’re all really happy about.

We began the session by laying down the drum trax for “Alright”. This song seemed like a good starting point for recording because it is one of our older tunes and one we could probably all play in our sleep. We kind of flew right through the rest of the tracking for “Alright” and had an instrumental we were all happy with in no time. Everything came together easy breezy leaving us enough time to eat pizza and beer and to develop a few inside jokes involving bagels that are too hard to explain.

Horse Girl’s upcoming cassette Been Better will be available July 14 through Anxiety Pop.
