Keeping up with the elusive San Francisco artist known only as VA Violet, we present the world premiere for “Berlin” that revels in those privy places of heart & home. The bedroom recorded cadence creates the feeling here of something that is unmistakably real & raw that strikes the more guarded places of memory & the heart. An answer to the shamble-core & the (Sandy) Alex G revolution brought about from the rosters heard on imprints like Orchid Tapes & all micro-labels that keep the international spirit of DIY impressionism/expressionism alive & well at a time when the worst sorts of isms & schisms run the international show of unrest.
VA Violet’s “Berlin” offers up the most unexpected hooks that make this one of the most stand-out tracks from the SF artist to date. The chords are connected directly to the motorik rhythm motions that work to make every note pack a punch that delivers a maximum payload effect. The chorus hook of “this life’s got a meaning, this life’s got a meaning in my mind” instills a sense of unlimited enlightenment, the feeling of having all the right questions while seeking those mythical life changing doors/portals called answers. Sublime narratives of chance encounters, what they mean, to what they may have meant in the long-view of things are mulled about as the every chord offers up instantly catchy harmonies that will pick you up from whatever hole you may have fallen in. “Berlin” is the sound of finding that little nugget or kernel of hope in the haystack that exudes the almost inexplicable essence of finding that personal inspirational light of self-assured hope & fear conquering confidence. Read our recent discussion with VA Violet in a brief interview featured after the following debut:

Tell us too about the inquiries & epiphanies that informed “Berlin”.
I wrote “Berlin” after coming to terms with the way people change. And to realize that no two lives are the same, and that no two lives will be on the same level.
What was the process like in recording this beautiful number?
I recorded this whole track at my house, experimenting with tones on the guitar a lot.

What is the key to penning such restrained & emotive vignettes?
I think the song captures an emotion that I feel like so many people can understand in their own way. The lyrics are very vague to a listener because it’s my perspective, but can definitely be interpreted by relating it as well.
Upcoming releases we should no about?
I’m just recording songs and releasing them as they come by at the moment.
Other artists you want to give a shout out to?
Elliot Smith.
