Nerve Leak just remixed Sleeping Lion’s “Morning Coffee” that offers up some creative twists to your morning, awakening rituals. Sleeping Lion’s original is given a whole new lease on life as Sam Friedman teases out all the most understated & mind-spinning tricks & effects that only serve to reinforce the creative, talented prowess of all involved artists.
Sam shared the following exclusive behind-the-scenes introduction to the remix:

I met Sleeping Lion at my first live performance with Sofar Sounds, a global concert series that hosts shows in unique, intimate locations across the world. The most exciting part of Sofar Sounds is not knowing who you will be seeing play until you’re at the show. As a performer, I also did not know who I was playing with. After my set, Nate of Sleeping Lion, who played after me, was immediately complimentary of my sound, and we kept in touch. They asked me to remix a track of my choosing off their EP, Patient Creature. I was hooked onto “Morning Coffee” when I heard the lyric, “I wanna fuck / wearing nothing but the bracelet you gave me.” I remember hearing the lyric live and feeling especially moved because of its rawness and imagery. I tried to capture the alternative R&B mood of the original song, but darken it with distortion and pitched-down vocals, paired with heavy trap drums and clinging percussion. The result is a nocturnal, eerie rework of Sleeping Lion’s silky electronic sound. Our worlds met in an interesting way because Sleeping Lion is much more pop-centered, whereas my production tends to be experimental. I’m grateful they took a chance on me to breathe new life into their already-beautiful music.
