Ireland by way of Philly’s Games Violet shared their new beat-bubbling single “Tin Box” from their forthcoming debut album available November 15. Combining creative rhythm patterns, choice keys, wailing guitars & whispering harmony duet-rounds; Games Violet are one of the most new-ish exciting Philly acts around. Emma & Alex shared some insights about “Tin Box” with insights on the making of the upcoming debut album:

Before recording our upcoming LP we went on a road trip across the U.S. (we’re from Ireland and had only seen a small part of the East Coast). We left from Philly and went all across the South for about 3 weeks until we got to LA. It was pretty intense being in the car for 8-12 hours some days but it was worth it to see the shifts in landscape and get a better sense of American culture. Our house was actually broken into when we were driving to San Francisco so we had to turn around and managed to drive back across the country in three days (Vegas to Nebraska really hurt…). Thankfully none of our gear was taken but we took it as a sign that it was time to stop travelling and actually record the album. Most of the LP was written and produced in the following two months in our basement in South Philly. We just tried to write as freely as possible, so the mood and aesthetic shifts pretty wildly from track to track. Lyrically things got a bit more political than we expected when starting out. Generally we’re quite allergic to overtly political song writing but for some reason the ideas came pretty naturally (Brexit, iPhone/Apple fetishism, North Korea, NSA controversies, etc.) and so we’ll probably do more stuff like that in the future.
