Moon Baby

Today Pittsburgh genderqueer artist Moon Baby dazzled us with the beautiful Barbara EP via Future Gods that follows up the cult album Hollywood Killed Tara Reid with a collaboration with fellow mercurial pop-maven Wise Blood. The eclectic world of Moon Baby launches the binary conventions out into the wasteland of the cosmos in the name of making a joyful assembly of sounds that treats the traditions of genre like the evolving & shifting patterns of the lunar cycles. With the grace & grit of a shining star sent from the heavens to save us from the white cis het overlords of cruelty & xenophobia; Moon Baby brings styles & a sound of satisfaction that feels raw, real, yet refined in both attitude & execution.
The lead single “Maralago” riffs on the Florida resort where the despot hater-in-chief resides most of the time, where Moon Baby calls out the arrogant intolerance according to the very toxic rhetoric that trickles down from the executive branch. Aspects of Wise Blood’s own hypnotic production touchstones shine through on the decadent track “Rome” that takes the listener for a slow & sweet Roman holiday getaway that switches from the previous street-brawler mode to a hazy & sensuous cool croon of hedonistic delight. The glittery “Pumps By the Pool” ft. Biblegirl666 brings an early & indulgent summer scene that basks in the sun-kissed glow of positive body image & a whole lot of significant other stealing conspiracies. On “True Blood”, Moon Baby’s reiterations of getting anything from you is like getting blood from a stone shines like an ultra-fab strutting & swaggering anthem sung over blistering Wise Blood-esque rhythm arrangements of timeless design. Keeping the craft of chronology in full-on oscillation, “Under the Ocean” offers up a whole other sort of future-funky rhythm & blues that ain’t your average “Under the Sea” party. The glitz, glamor & ballroom blitzes of Barbara draw to a close on “Brutal” with Baby & Blood kicking it cool with some super addictive rhythm piano step-maneuvers to keep your next dance party lively, lit & ultra-inclusive. Moon Baby introduced us to the new EP in her own words:

Barbara is the follow up EP to last year’s Hollywood Killed Tara Reid by the Moon Baby with production by Wise Blood.
