El Corredor Del Jaguar provides a pathway for the a variety of ferocious jams & audio fusions to transpire before your very ears. “Pajaro” springs flight like a tropical bird on the wing seeking a new branch and/or flight plan/pattern, as “Tamborero” fires forth all percussive elements toward the coordinates of the sun. “Frio Severo” finds Carolina Oliveros leading the crew through the most beguiling chord arrangements that weave together in the wah-wah channels of the “Chimbita Theme” that finds the group firing forth their own combined firework-energy that ignites in audio colors of beauty that blend Afro-Cuban sensibilities with the luster & dimensions of Caribbean styles.

Prince of Queens of Combo Chimbita wrote a reflection on the making of the EP:

“El Corredor Del Jaguar” was the product of a week of music exploration. We had been improvising and jamming on and off for months, and when we decided to record we didn’t even have all the songs. The idea was to do it ourselves, with the tools we had. We decided to not over think the music, but rather experience it and keep the improvisational energy. We set up our amps and drums in my house and started coming up with grooves. We recorded live in my living room on our 8 track tape machine on a cold Saturday with all our gear and with the help of Names You Can Trust, the label that put out our EP.

Making el “El Corredor Del Jaguar” in that DIY way led us to find our sound. It consolidated all the ideas we had floating around, and when Carolina Oliveros joined the crew it all fell into place. Combo Chimbita have been close friends for many years and share a deep love for older Caribbean, African and Latin American records that transcend generations. We look back and try to find clues and connections in the music for guidance and inspiration. In a way, I feel like that’s what we were doing on this record. Leaving a clue for someone in the future.

By the way, the EP comes with a story. Here it is in Spanish and English:

It’s 2016, the pendulum brutally falls right – erasing the history of the others, ignoring the laws of equilibrium. Mountain ranges, islands, forests and waters in resistance, summon woman and man. In the banana plantations, the original visions and traditions of the wise and spirtual are subverted, falling flat. The awakening of the wandering guard. Vibrating mantras open the door. The fire of the sun never answers to chaos. You are alerted – your mission, to rebuild the corridor. From their dreams, the ancestors root in the minds of their seed. From their dreams, the vision of the blossoming CORREDOR DEL JAGUAR is sparked.
