Absolutely Free, “Clothed Woman, Sitting”

Having long ago lost touch with the ability to burn slowly, new music in all its genres these days has the tendency to flash like a bright star, then fade away. Through Absolutely Free's latest, “Clothed Woman, Sitting”, the whole scope of what we expect when a new single is announced gets flipped by starting so slowly and subtly that the imagination cannot even unpack what is to come at the song's latter half. Utilizing a variety of entrypoints into the single, it appeals to those who like to burn out, to rock, and to dance. Its soft mood and generous lyrical content is only outweighed by its temporal, over-the-top freakout toward the song's piled-high end. As a project from former members of DD/MM//YYYY, we'd expect nothing less, and are happy to say singles as immaculately constructed as this, despite their unwieldy length, appear to be making a comeback.

One Big Silence releases on October 29 through Lefse Records.
