Active Child, “Playing House” (Houses Remix)

Little was spoken of chillwave's Sonny & Cher, a.k.a. Houses after its 2010 debut All Night. Recording an album in a week's time in Hawaii did not benefit the love birds and they were absent from the summer festival circuit, while all their chillwave contemporaries ditched the lap tops for band mates. There's always the remix, though!

Active Child linked up with How To Dress Well for the track “Playing House” from its debut You Are All I See. The original teeters on that shaky ground between James Blake's dub & b/vocal fuggery and the distant whispers of last year's best new everything. Houses greet the remix with a compendium of dance apostrophes: the 8-bit flourishes, the downtempo organ drones and the looped vocal refrains that escalate into sounding alarms to create a bliss-out experience before stripping the remix clean to the synths and blips for an atmospheric goodbye.

Houses might be quiet on the scene or just far busier running the Waaga label, but at least the duo is thoughtful with its remixes.
