Bartholomew Clay, “She's A Scientist”

Bartholomew Clay's debut solo album, A Celebration of You, feels like a breakup record—one where the protagonist was so tragically heartbroken by an uninterested lover that he was forced to mask his longing under layers of noisy pop scuzz. On “She's A Scientist”, the distance between lover and friend is huge, proving that sometimes the only therapy to having your passion dismissed is to put it to music. With the occasional off-the-mark note or pained melody, “She's A Scientist” becomes lo-fi pining at its greatest—dismal without being depressed, fuzzy without being unapproachable.
