French hardcore titans drop scorching new single & announce new LP Gris Klein

Back in 2018, the French experimental hardcore titans Birds In Row released their powerful sophomore album We Already Lost The World, one of our favorite LPs of that year. That album skyrocketed Birds In Row to another level of infamy while highlighting their chameleonic approach of toggling through a number of heavy subgenres: melodic punk, post metal, post-hardcore, and everything else in between.

After recently sharing the excellent track “Water Wings,” today they’ve dropped the scorching new single “Nympheas,” the latest taste of their highly anticipated, newly announced third album Gris Klein – out October 14 via Red Creek Recordings.

Right away, “Nympheas” hits the listener with a shattering wall of dissonant guitar riffage and head-splitting percussion, wrapped around frontman Bart “B.” Hirogoyen’s throat-bursting screams. It’s a track full of ruthless instrumentation and pained lyrics offering a sympathetic view in the face of emotional turbulence.

In a statement, the band described “Nympheas” as “an ode to those who keep fighting when we don’t have the energy to anymore, or never have had it, especially when facing political issues that are increasingly more visible.”

The lyrics to Gris Klein were all shaped during lockdown, and thus the album functions as a portrait of a world enduring chaos whilst social isolation, depression, and other mental health struggles run rampant. According to the band, their central manifesto of loving each other remains intact. Equal parts brutal and compassionate, like seeking a light at the end of a dark, punishing tunnel.

“We really want people to know that they’re not alone, and that they can count on each other,” they shared.
