Brett, “Electric”

There is a feeling that the synth tones on Brett’s “Electric” touch the polar boundaries of sound. It’s the warmest of feeling. That immediate warm place, that tonal perfection, makes all textures in the bridges and hooks to come a plush cocoon of synth pop.

Is this the most radio-ready song under the Cascine label? It’s surely a contender. Radio would be a tad tolerable if it was a reality. And yet, as palatable as Brett have pushed their sound, the album remains deeply informed by the high art of Jean Luc-Godard’s Goodbye To Language and afternoons getting lost in James Turrell’s exhibit at the LACMA.

Brett’s Mode is out March 18 on Cascine.
