Del Sur, “Melted Down”

As we hunker down into the freezing depths of the Polar Vortex (part deux), it’s nice to be reminded of the sunnier side to life. Case in point: “Melted Down,” a breezy slice of lo-fi from Philly’s Del Sur. The bright, balmy single is a pleasant introduction to the band’s distinctly beachy vibe, which tips the scales from tropical to psychedelic to vintage SoCal surf pop.

“Melted Down” is simple, subtle, and potent just the same. Opening the track is an immediately captivating rhythm: warm, gooey bass groove, followed closely by bongos and sleek guitars. Del Sur frontman Michael Collier employs an easy, breezy style as he details matters of the heart. “You’re the only one who gets to me anymore,” he confesses, as a billowy melody carries him away.

Del Sur’s H.A.G.S. EP is being self-released on January 27, 2015.
