Dorvin Borman – “Pressure Valve”

Post Author: Kaya Haskins

A brilliant, dreamy slice of psych-pop bliss from the rising L.A. indie shapeshifter

Los Angeles indie shapeshifter Dorvin Borman is one of our favorite up-and-coming musicians, having impressed us over the last couple years with a handful of effervescent, wondrous dream pop singles. Today he returns with his first new tune of 2021 – and one of his most immediate songs to date – the lush and psych-tinged “Pressure Valve.”

“Pressure Valve” is a gorgeous elixir of dream pop and psychedelic, blending nostalgic basslines, hazy lo-fi riffs, simmering percussion, and an addictively warped synth melody that steers the ship forward. Borman’s vocals are perfect here, softly melting and fading along with the track’s languid, sun-baked grooves.

According to Borman, “Pressure Valve” is a symbolic response to chaos and turbulence. “The narrator imagines an ideal life in which he can achieve balance and contentment by the simple twist of a pressure valve, one which seals off all of the chaotic mental exhaust which keep him from leading a normal, satisfied life,” he shared. “Simply achieving normalcy – this would be bliss.”
