Merso, Red World

Seattle-based post-rock quartet MERSO – comprised of Evan Anderson (bass), Taylor Carroll (drums), Taylor Romoser (guitar), and Tristan Sennholz (vocals) – has been through many changes, and now they’ve risen like a phoenix from the ashes to release their debut album, Red World. The7-track  album is set to release tomorrow, but we have your first listen right here.

A piano chord, high-pitched, Sennholz’s gorgeous vocals, and a slow disposition make an immediate impression with first track “Astoria”. Instrumentals layer in, making this feel like a quirky, reverb-filled love song. “Reunion Show” hits at a similar tempo initially, building up to a more frantic tempo. And the entire album carries on in the same vein, at times reminding us of Adam Levine’s signature vocals, only taken up a notch. (Yup. That’s right. Sennholz puts him to shame.) Transitioning from instrumentals that sound as though they originated with a technological breakdown – but are now mellow, smooth, and beautiful – to crashing cymbals in songs like “Librium”, this album is difficult to place genre-wise.

And perhaps that’s the point, but either way we’re loving it.

Red World is out October 21st via Good To Die Records. The guys will be playing their record release show at Black Lodge that night. Find out more here.
