Oddisee with Stik Figa

We already put you on to Oddisee's Traveling Man, but this release just got funkier with a remix featuring Kansas City emcee Stik Figa.

“Kansas Bay” (South Central Remix) chops up G-Funk like fresh of the morning snow – so pure. This is like listening to an organized session of multiple boom boxes pumping out hits like “Pistol Grip Pump,” “Nuthin' But A 'G' Thang,” “Ain't No Future In Yo Frontin',” “Dollaz + Sense” and “Bop Gun” at once. Stik Figa reps Kansas City, but sounds right at home over the westcentric bounce.

It's refreshing to hear such a talented young cat homage the G-Funk era with such candor. Stik closes his verse referencing DJ Quik's “Jus Lyke Compton,” which is precisely who Stik sounds comparable to over this beat. Oddisee is quoted as stating that Stik sounds like Too Short with his comedic story and we'll grant that comparison as well. Stik Figa seems to prefer the soulful production on his solo work, but we'd smoke a ounce to a record of Stik getting funky on the mix to the Compton sounds.

Oddisee's Traveling Man is out now on Mello Music Group.
