Pure X, “Someone Else”

Pure X

I've often heard it said that the second LP is the hardest record a band can write. There's an immense pressure that's inherent in the writing process, an urgency to outdo the debut release, to prove that the band has grown and matured and yet is still able to maintain some semblance of its former identity.

The Austin-based dream-pop trio Pure X will attempt to do just that. Two years after releasing Pleasure with Acephale, the band is back to present their sophomore effort Crawling Up The Stairs. “Someone Else” is the second single off that forthcoming record. It's a song that's pensive and mellow. Effected guitars and ambient synth hover tentatively beneath haunting vocals tracks that bounce around between an almost whisper, a sweet falsetto and grizzling growl as the song's mood ebbs and flows.

Crawling Up The Stairs is due out May 14 via Acephale Records in North America and Merok in the rest of the world. Preview the new song and check the dates below as Pure X embarks on a US tour in support of the new record.
