When milo got his cease & desist letter from Anticon for Milo Takes Baths, it not only gained him a little online infamy, but it put him on the radar of a few producers who understood his aesthetic and wanted to offer their support in legitimizing his art. The two frontrunners in making milo's breakthrough double EP things that happen at day // things that happen at night were Analog Tape Dispenser and Riley Lake.
Since the EP milo and Riley have collaborated on the Cavalcade mixtape and Riley has toured as his deejay. The young producer has been welcomed into the Hellfyre Club, lending his production to future projects and remixes like the recently released “Honest(y)” track that puts an art rap flip on Future's 2013 single. But as notorious as Riley Lake's become for curating milo's sound, he's got a heavy interest in club music he rarely gets to showcase. Knowing Young Riley is keeping his club love at bay, we offered him a chance to enlighten folks to his full repertoire. We're calling this one the Riley Lake Starter Kit.
He offered the following words on the inspiration for the mix:
Basically, the mix starts with a snippet of a peak time DJ set that I might play (except a little less focused because I'm trying to showcase a range of styles that have influenced me), then slowly dissipates into a collection of five or six songs that have really influenced my sense of how rap music can sound. The last four songs are meant to show how all of the previous material has coalesced into one particular facet of my production right now.
“DJ tool # 7”, “for rory # 3”, and the Iglooghost Remix are all unreleased (the Iglooghost Remix only appears on the physical version of Error Broadcast EP). I wanted to slip more unreleased stuff in but the rappers that are going to rap on those beats were not too happy with that idea.
