Slated for the follow-up to last year’s incendiary debut, Run The Jewels’ “Oh My Darling Don’t Cry” is being served as the second to last free download for Adult Swim’s 16 week Summer Single Series. The tag team of El-P and Killer Mike gain further momentum on the latest single, particularly when the beat morphs into a cacophony of terror blips atop the stomach rumbles of the subwoofer.
Featuring sound effects by Michael Winslow, the human beatbox from Police Academy, “Oh My Darling Don’t Cry” is an extension of what we’ve come to expect from RTJ—relentless shit-talking over El-P’s calling card of dystopian production. One raps and fucks, the other fucks and raps. It’s “fuck shit up” music that invites naysayers to run through a field of dicks backwards. And while sound effects by Michael Winslow is the strangest (and longest overdue) addition to a rap song, the remainder of RTJ2 is set to feature Zack De La Rocha, Travis Barker, and BOOTS (assuming Boots Riley here)—an all-star cast in the field of fucking shit up.
