Thoma, "Monument"

Post Author: Meredith Schneider

Production duo Thoma – comprised of Tristan de Liège (formerly Stratus) and Benjamin Hill (Askanse) – is prepping to release their self-titled debut 11-track album via Loci Records next month. We’ve got the exclusive premiere of their adrenaline-pumping track “Monument”.
We’ve yet to hear such an entrancing beat in 2017, our ears absolutely enveloped in an array of percussion that somehow melds into a transformative sound. Simple, slow instrumentals are gradually introduced, and the vibe of the song changes several times during the four minutes and fourteen seconds we have to be graced by this wildly entertaining production.
Says the band:

In this track we wanted to channel together some of the textures of a peaceful Indonesian gamelan piece with understated jazz sounds, and then contrast those with a really explosive beat and energetic synths. The name is a reference to a really inspiring event we went to in downtown Los Angeles where a sax, violin, guitar and drums were used in an improvisational ensemble in an art gallery space.

Thoma is out February 3rd via Loci Records.
