Upset, “Glass Ceiling”

Post Author:

Upset is the songwriting project of Ali Koehler (formerly of Vivian Girls, Best Coast), joined by a supergroup of Rachel Galgiardi (Slutever) on bass, Patty Schemel (formerly of Hole) on drums, and Lauren Freeman on guitar. Following their 2013 debut full-length for Don Giovanni, the band has have announced a new tape on Lauren Records, ’76, and extensive tour with fellow Angeleno Colleen Green. Lead single “Glass Ceiling” is a riffy jumble of power pop that perfectly captures Upset’s ability to write immensely catchy songs with simple, grunge-inspired progressions. “I know what to let you bargain for, but I don’t think that I could care,” Koehler sings cathartically, beckoning both shit-kicking and sunny group-yell-along types of excitement — a rare feat. “Glass Ceiling” is streaming below; the tape is available via Lauren Records.
