Watch Glenn Jones perform in a melancholic banjo faceoff

Americana specialist Glenn Jones has a new album out, My Garden State, and nothing pulls ye olde heartstrings more than a little soft harmony-driven banjo strumming filmed in Allentown, NJ. Now, if you're the kind to disparage the great state of New Jersey, it might behoove you to watch Jones perform this beautiful ditty, “Across the Tappan Zee” with Laura Baird, who also produced his new record. There is a melancholic calmness to watching two expert banjo players play, especially when those banjo players aren't in Deliverance. If you've been getting caught up in too much hype for Savages, then this is the perfect antidote.

My Garden State is out on Thrill Jockey now.
