Earth’s Dylan Carlson tries to capture the human-fairy relationship

Post Author:

It takes a long time to gain the kind of skills you need to conjure up magic. Dylan Carlson, founder and the only consistent member of the legendary drone doom group Earth (and Kurt Cobain’s former roommate), is working on his first solo album, and has started a Kickstarter to help fund the project. Carlson hopes that his work on this project will help to restore fairies and spirits to the earth through the use of “folkloric magical practices”. [show_more more=”Tap to Read More” less=”Read Less” align=”center”] The album will explore the region of the Albion islands, which is now known as England, Scotland, and Wales. Carlson will layer field recordings from the area, his own interpretations of Scotch-English ballads, and guest vocals to make an album that will explore the history of a magical world in the land of his ancestors. The limited editions of the CD/LP release will come with a pop-up book with a personalized Ex Libris by Simon Fowler and illustrations by Kiyo Lappalainen and a DVD of the excursion to gather the field recordings by Clyde Peterson (also known as musician Your Heart Breaks).

It’s hard to imagine what this album will sound like, since it . But whatever the outcome, it will be worth watching, so we support Carlson’s Kickstarter and his chance to make it. Carlson has 13 days to raise a little over $20,000 to be able to record his album, “Coleman Grey presents ‘Falling with a Thousand Stars and Other Wonders from the House of Albion’,” which he hopes to release in May 2013. He has already raised more than $8,000 and has the support of more than 135 magic seekers. As always, different levels of support bring different goodies, but you have might have to endow the whole project if you hopping to be abe to use any of the magic that will be unleashed.
