Eternal Summers announce split EP with Brown Brogues; debut “Window”

Virginia dream punks Eternal Summers just debuted their new song “Window”, while simultaneously announcing that they’re going to be releasing a split EP with UK garage duo Brown Brogues. The new song, which was released as the b-side for their single release of “Gouge”, will be featured alongside some songs from Eternal Summers’ most recent album, The Drop Beneath, on the upcoming split, which is being released through UK label Haus of Pins. In anticipation of its release, Haus of Pins also released a teaser of the split, which features 15-20 second snippets of each track on the album. While it’s hard to form too many opinions on the quality of an album based on samples that short, the full stream of “Window” is definitely enough to make it exciting.

Like most of Eternal Summers’ songs, “Window” has a layered, reverb sound, which feels equal parts shoegaze and dream pop. In sharp contrast with the cacophonous, grungey instrumentals, Nicole Yun delivers lines in an high-pitched, breathless tone that gives the song a dream-like quality. This juxtaposition is something that the band picks up a couple times, including near the end, when Yun lurchs into a guitar solo that starts as an assault of distortion before becoming slowly more melodic.

You can listen to “Window” below and look for the Eternal Summers and Brown Brogues split when it comes out on Haus of Pins. You can also stream the teaser here.
