SNL’s Aidy Bryant recently directed and starred in a short film, Darby Forever, that’s set to premiere next month as the first entry on Vimeo’s new Share the Screen initiative. The series seeks to create more opportunities for female filmmakers to get their movies made, and will fund five female-driven films in 2016. As New York Mag pointed out, this is the same format that helped High Maintenance land an HBO deal.

Which is cool. But not the reason we took notice.

As someone on Twitter pointed out, Priests‘ “Modern Love/No Weapon” plays in the trailer. An obvious match made in proverbial heaven given the direction of the film series.

According to Priests’ Katie Alice-Greer, the band was approached through Don Giovanni for the song to be used both in the film and the trailer. “We were told this was a small-budget project, that the film was directed by a young woman and that Natasha Lyonne was involved,” Greer told us via e-mail. “From what I heard the song is used in a dream sequence where the main character is fantasizing about being in a band.”

The trailer also features cameos by ex-Vivian Girls Katy Goodman and Ali Koehler. Hard to imagine a better band to want to be a part of.

Darby Forever will be released via Vimeo on February 18. You can watch the trailer below.
